The Leland House
About Us
About Us: The Leland House, A Boutique Hotel in Durango
As a family-owned and operated boutique hotel, our connection to Durango runs deep. The Ensign Martinez family—parents Tonya and Chuck, their adult children Alec, Lukman, and Alec’s partner Dominic—bring a personal touch to The Leland House Suites, making it a true reflection of their shared passions for hospitality, outdoor adventure, wellness, and community.
Tonya and Chuck Ensign lived in Scottsdale for 25 years and discovered Durango in 1987. They were regular visitors for years and bought a small cabin in 2000. They moved their family to Durango full-time in 2009.
In 2021, Tonya, Chuck, Alec, and Dominic purchased The Leland House, an established business that had been lovingly operated by another local family for more than two decades. That same year, the four of them developed the concept for Lola’s Place, a coffee shop, bar, restaurant, and event venue adjacent to the hotel that could serve as a gathering space. These businesses combine their entrepreneurial spirit with their close-knit family values, sustainability values, service values, and their commitment to creating inclusive spaces for locals and visitors alike.
With a small leadership team comprised of Tonya, Alec, Dominic and full-time manager, Cooper Senn, The Leland House is uniquely positioned to provide exceptional customer service and an unparalleled level of care. At The Leland House, our goal is to ensure every guest not only feels at home but also leaves with unforgettable memories of Durango.
Many guests return year after year and become friends. When you stay with us at The Leland House, you’re not just staying in Durango—you’re living like a local!
